CMC appoints President of Asia University of Art and Design

On the afternoon of 19 May 2022 in Hanoi, CMC Corporation announced and presented the decision to appoint Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Binh, PhD to the position of President of Asia University of Art and Design (AUAD) - a member of the corporation. Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh - President of CMC Corporation, Chairman of Board of Trustees of AUAD has announced the decision to appoint the President of the university for the 2022-2027 term of office.

According to CMC, the new President will be in charge of leading the staff and lecturers of the university to successfully realize the philosophy and objectives of improving education quality in order to become a pioneering university in science and technology training and research.

Prof.  Nguyen Ngoc Binh, PhD is appointed to the position of President of AUAD in the 2022-2027 term.

The new President of AUAD was born in 1959. He graduated from Kishinev State University in 1981, and received a Master's degree after attending Toyohashi University of Technology in 1995. Later, he was given a Doctor's degree by Osaka University in 1998. He was ranked as Associate Professor in 2003, and then Professor in 2016. He has made positive contributions in the process of building cooperation projects in IT between Vietnam and Japan, as well as directly participating in many academic exchange activities and promoting human resource training and research cooperation between the two countries.

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Binh has shared some plans in the coming time to help AUAD become a pioneering digital university, build an open and advanced learning environment in the digital era and effectively implement the strategic contents in the development plan of the university in the 2022-2033 period with vision to 2043.

In his new term of office, Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Binh sets the university's top goals, which are: being the first to apply digital technology in university governance and teaching quality development; improving the quality of scientific research and technology transfer, as well as qualification of students; improving indicators of satisfaction level of learners and employers in the future.

At the same time, the new President of AUAD also believes that, the support from CMC Corporation and the companionship of leading universities in Vietnam as well as the staff, lecturers and students of AUAD will help to create an attractive environment for domestic and foreign researchers to work, and turn the university into a trusted destination for parents and students.

At the appointment ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh sent his congratulations to the new President of AUAD as well as other members of the Board of Management and managing officers appointed to key positions at the university, and emphasized that this team plays an extremely critical role in the development of the university in time to come.

The appointment of President of AUAD for the 2022-2027 term marks a new step of the university in perfecting its organizational structure and apparatus to improve its operational quality and efficiency. This is also a milestone in the development of the university. Representatives of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Engineering and Technology - Vietnam National University, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, and Japanese International School also attended the ceremony and sent congratulations to the new President of AUAD.

Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, PhD - President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology highly appreciates the achievements of Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Binh in his education career, understands his concerns about higher education in Vietnam - which drove him to the decision of returning to Vietnam, and believes that with his ability and his heart, the new President will continue to contribute to the development of AUAD in particular and of Vietnamese education in general. As higher education in Vietnam is facing many opportunities and challenges, leaders of universities also pledge to work together and support each other in order to continuously innovate and strongly develop.

Prior to his appointment as President of AUAD, Prof. . Nguyen Ngoc Binh has had 40 years of experience at prestigious domestic and overseas educational institutions, such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, International Francophone Institute and University of Engineering and Technology - Vietnam National University. He used to hold many managerial positions, such as: Head of Software Technology Department, Director of Library and Information Work - Hanoi University of Science and Technology (2000 - 2004); Vice Rector of  University of Engineering and Technology - Vietnam National University (2006-2009); Secretary of the Party Committee - Rector of University of Engineering and Technology - Vietnam National University (2009-2014); Director of International Francophone Institute (2014-2016); Vice President of Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics, Japan (2019-2022).

With a lot of experience as stated above, Prof. . Nguyen Ngoc Binh will work with the Board of Management and leaders of the University to lead AUAD to a lot of success in the future, contributing to the overall development of the education sector and the whole society. Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Binh has also received a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister in 2009, as well as a Certificate of Merit from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 2014 for his important contributions in promoting exchanges and cooperation and strengthening the friendly relationship between Japan and Vietnam in higher education.

He is also the first Vietnamese to be appointed to a senior managerial position by a long-standing educational institution of Japan (Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics).  As his leadership capacity has been demonstrated by his achievements in the field of education, Prof. . Nguyen Ngoc Binh is expected to make many contributions to the development of the University in training high-quality human resources in science, technology and innovation for the country.
